About This Game

The Fruit Typing Game challenges players to actively produce Mandarin Chinese by typing, not just recognising characters. At Level 1, you see a fruit emoji and type the Chinese word. At Level 2, you type full sentences using 喜欢 and 不喜欢. Level 3 introduces more complex connected sentences.

Copy and paste are disabled, you must type every character yourself. Correct answers earn a point and trigger a confetti burst; wrong answers show a character-by-character breakdown so you can see exactly where you went wrong.

What You'll Learn

• Chinese fruit vocabulary: 苹果 (píngguǒ, apple), 香蕉 (xiāngjiāo, banana), 草莓 (cǎoméi, strawberry), 葡萄 (pútao, grape)
• Expressing likes and dislikes: 我喜欢… (wǒ xǐhuān…) / 我不喜欢… (wǒ bù xǐhuān…)
• Connecting clauses: …也喜欢… (…yě xǐhuān…) / …也不喜欢… (…yě bù xǐhuān…)
• Active character production, typing Chinese, not just reading it

How to Play

• Look at the prompt, a fruit emoji at Level 1, or a Chinese sentence at Levels 2 and 3
• Type the correct Chinese word or sentence into the input box
• Press Submit to check your answer
• Review the character-by-character feedback, then press Continue for the next prompt
• Reach score 10 to unlock Level 2, and score 20 for Level 3

Best suited to beginner and intermediate Mandarin Chinese learners who want to practise writing Chinese characters actively. Suitable for secondary school students and adults learning Chinese. Requires a Chinese input method (IME) installed on your device. Works in all modern desktop browsers.
